49.9Wh laptop battery spotted on 3C could be for a new MacBook Air

Now that Apple has confirmed that it'll be shifting to ARM-based chips for its PCs, the question on people's mind is: Which model will it be? There's still no definite answer to that question yet, but signs are pointing to a new MacBook Air coming soon.

According to TechSpot (via @smartvenkat95), a 4380mAh battery for an Apple MacBook has been certified on China's 3C and UL Demko. Considering the capacity of the battery, this is unlikely to be for an iPad or iPhone. Doubly so as it is listed as a 49.9Wh battery, which is the kind of spec you see with laptop PCs. This is believed to be the battery for a new MacBook Air, which may be revealed at an online event on 27 October 2020 considering its parts are already being certified.

It should be noted that 4380mAh makes this battery smaller than the 5100mAh one used in the current MacBook Air. While that's true, Apple can probably afford to do this. The ARM-based Bionic chipset will likely have much lower power consumption than an Intel chip, so using a smaller battery shouldn't be an issue.

The battery is real, but whether it's for a new MacBook Air remains to be seen. Having said that, do you think it's the latest MacBook Air or a different model? Share your thoughts with us in the comments on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news like this.
