Now that AMD has seen success with its mobile CPUs for 2020, the company is turning towards the huge OEM desktop PC market. AMD has unveiled the Ryzen 4000G series and Athlon 3000 series APUs that are built on the 7nm process. In particular, the Ryzen 4000 G series will be targeted at OEM and system integrators.

The Ryzen 4000G series has a total of 12 SKUs, six for the Ryzen 4000G series and another six for the Ryzen PRO 4000G series. Both are essentially the same, except the PRO versions have some additional security features and are more suitable for enterprise companies. These processors will also come with built-in Radeon Graphics and would feature in commercial desktop PCs. For example, the Huawei desktop PC we wrote about recently comes with a Ryzen 5 Pro 4400G APU.

As for the Athlon 3000 series, it has a total of six SKUs that are also split equally for its non-PRO and PRO versions. These are more budget-oriented APUs but still come with Radeon Graphics, so they are suitable for people who want to build a new PC for a lower cost. Unlike the Ryzen 4000G series, the Athlon 3000 series is not limited to OEMs only and can be purchase like normal.

According to AMD, desktop PCs with the new Ryzen 4000G series APUs from Lenovo and HP will be available in Q3 2020. No other companies were named, but Huawei is in the list and we'll probably see more announced in the next few weeks. For consumers though, you probably want to wait for the Athlon 3000 series processors, especially if all you need is a simple PC for basic tasks.
