The Acer Iconia A1-830 tablet was recently launched in Malaysia by Acer Malaysia. Bearing the same metal unibody and looks as the Apple iPad mini, the main differences between the two are that the Iconia A1-830 packs in a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor and uses Android. To top it all off, Acer Malaysia are pricing the tablet at RM599 so if you've liked the way Apple made the iPad mini design but wanted an Android system with a more stable Intel processor, then this is certainly one tablet you should consider. We managed to get a hands-on with the Acer Iconia A1-830 and it certainly looks good.
Apart from the Intel processor, other tech specs include 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, up to 32GB microSD support, a 7.9-inch displaty with 768 x 1024 pixel resolution, 5MP rear camera and 2MP front camera. This means that apart from the 2MP camera (and probably the battery and a few other features), the Iconia A1-830 tech specs are more or less the same as the iPad mini. One other difference is the weight as at 380g the Iconia A1-830 is a bit heftier than the iPad mini but for a more detailed tech spec comparison do check out our Acer Iconia A1-830 vs Apple iPad mini comparison tool.
We didn't get a chance to benchmark it yet, but from what we can see of the interface and apps, Acer have bundled a good amount of extra apps (bloatware) into the system. The Acer Iconia A1-830 has actually been unofficially available in Malaysia for quite some time now and while it is currently running Android 4.2 it could soon get an update to Android 4.4.
