Amazfit Active 2 review - Great value for beginners

The Amazfit Active 2 is a budget-friendly smartwatch that offers a good mix of features for everyday use. It costs around RM499 (or about $100 USD), making it a solid option if you want a smartwatch without spending too much. It has a clean, modern design that looks nice on the wrist, with a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen that's bright and easy to read, even under sunlight. Whether you're heading to work, the gym, or just running errands, it looks good and feels comfortable enough to wear all day.

For your information, the watch covers the basics pretty well. It can track your steps, heart rate, and sleep patterns. Plus, it supports over 160 workout types — though realistically, most people will only use a handful of those. The sleep tracking gives you a decent overview of your rest, and the heart rate sensor works fine for casual use. It's not super advanced like what you'd find on high-end fitness watches, but it's good enough if you're just trying to stay active and keep an eye on your health.

It takes around 2 hours for a full charge

One of the best things about the Active 2 is its battery life. You can go around a week on a single charge with regular use, which is way better than many other smartwatches that need to be charged every day or two. During one of our trail runs, the watch's battery only dropped 30% after 5 hours of intensive usage. That's pretty good, to be honest. It also works with both Android and iPhones, which is nice if you ever switch phones or use different devices.

However, the watch does have some downsides. Like the Amazfit T-Rex 3, it also uses the Zepp app. Which isn't the easiest to use. Some settings feel buried, and syncing can be a bit slow at times. Also, while the watch can show messages and call alerts, you can't really reply to texts unless you're on Android. Even then, the replies are limited to quick responses. Don't expect to be texting back and forth from your wrist.

All buttons are placed at the right side of the watch

The sensors are highly accurate too

There's also a voice assistant feature, but it's not very reliable. It often misunderstands commands or just doesn't respond as well as something like Siri or Google Assistant. The watch has Zepp Pay for contactless payments too, but this only works in certain countries and with certain banks, so it may not be usable where you live. For runners, it's also worth noting that the elevation gain recorded on Zepp might not be as accurate as on the Strava app. So, you might want to keep that in mind. Besides that, everything else works fine.

Overall, the Amazfit Active 2 is a solid choice if you're looking for a simple smartwatch that does the job without emptying your wallet. It's great for fitness tracking, has strong battery life, and looks nice. Just don't expect high-end smart features. If you want something to help you stay active and connected in a basic way, it's a good buy. But if you're looking for advanced features like voice replies, music storage, or seamless payments, you might want to consider spending more for something higher-end.
