Clamshell phones haven't been popular in a long time but the design seems to be making a comeback of sorts. It was just last month when the new Motorola RAZR with a foldable display was launched in Malaysia. Now, a new patent granted to Xiaomi could mean that another one is in the works.

According to LetsGoDigital, the patent details a foldable phone with a pop-up camera. These new diagrams are different from the ones we've seen before, which still showed the front camera and sensors on the front. In the new one, the front and rear camera systems are secured into the pop-up system. Without the front camera and sensors taking up space on the display, the device will have a very high screen-to-body ratio. Overall, pretty fancy features.

Besides the front camera, the rear camera and sensors are also attached to the pop-up system. What's interesting here is that the parts here will allegedly be behind a secondary display. This display is mainly used for notifications when the device is folded.

Mind you, owning patents doesn't necessarily translate into being able to produce an actual device. It's likely that such a device may not appear in the near future. Regardless, this kind of design is refreshing and one many would love to see.
