Previously, we reported that e-hailing company InDrive was issued a termination notice by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) due to failure to comply with regulations. Now, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has given further announcement on the matter, revealing that InDrive, alongside another Russian e-hailing company, Maxim, must cease operations in Malaysia on 24 July 2025.
Loke was quoted by Bernama as saying that the two Russian e-hailing companies were issued letters to cease operations for allegedly operating illegally in the country. He added that both companies can appeal, but the final decision rests with the Transport Minister.
The report added that according to APAD, InDrive and Maxim were found to have violated licensing conditions under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715), including the requirement that all vehicles under their platforms must operate with a valid E-Hailing Vehicle Permit (EVP), which is one of the main conditions under their Intermediation Business Licence (IBL). Such violations constitute an offence under Section 12D(1)(a) of the Act, which empowers the agency to revoke the licences of operators found violating the terms of their licence.
