20 years ago, only some people had a portable computing device in the form of a laptop. These days, almost everyone has a smartphone, which can do things that even the laptops of yesteryears couldn't. But in the future, these smartphones could be replaced too.

According to MacRumors, the analyst Kuo Ming-Chi claimed that Apple wants to replace the iPhone with augmented reality (AR) in ten years. This 10-year timeline will allegedly start when Apple launches its AR headset, which is expected to launch in Q4 2022. These headsets will be able to operate independently, allowing users to transition to a new computing experience.

In terms of features, this AR headset will deliver much more than an iPhone could. It's speculated that the Apple AR/VR headset will use 4K Micro OLED displays from Sony, as well as support virtual reality. However, it would need a lot more processing power than a smartphone too. Previously, it was rumoured that the headset would require at least two processors. One of them would have the performance level of an Apple M1 chip.

Could AR headsets replace smartphones? Would you need some motion controller to operate it, and is that more convenient than swiping on your phone? There's a lot of things to consider, but what do you think about the topic? Share your opinions in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for other news like this.
