It seems that someone has gotten Apple’s Mac Studio a bit early as a Geekbench 5 benchmark result of the M1 Ultra found inside the new Mac was posted just hours after it was announced yesterday. Shared by Benchleaks on Twitter, Apple’s latest top-of-the-line SoC showed impressive Single-Threaded and Multi-Threaded scores which surpassed or matched its competitors.

In Multi-Threaded scores, the M1 Ultra scored a staggering 24055 points, surpassing both the Intel Core i9-12900K (17204 points) and the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (16565 points). Furthermore, the latest Apple Silicon also gave AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X a run for its money, only losing out in the Multi-Threaded scores by a little over 1000 points or around 4.5%.

That in itself is quite impressive given how the M1 Ultra only has 20 CPU cores in total compared to the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X’s 64 Zen 2 cores. Moreover, both SoCs also have different power consumptions, with the M1 Ultra touted by Apple as being power efficient by only having to use 60W to reach peak performance, much less than the power-hungry Ryzen Threadripper 3990X with its 280W TDP.

While the numbers are really impressive, please do note that this is just one benchmark and that Geekbench 5 results don't necessarily translate to real-world performance. So, do take this information with a grain of salt.

Nevertheless, the benchmark result is a pretty impressive first showing by the new M1 Ultra! If you want to know more about the new SoC by Apple and other products announced by the tech giants yesterday, do check out our coverage of the ‘Peek Performance’ virtual event yesterday.
