Apple during its Far Out event today launched a slew of new products, including a refresh to the world’s best-selling smartwatch for 7 years running, the Apple Watch. These include the new Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE and for the first time ever, the Apple Watch Ultra which we are covering in a separate article here.

First up, the most notable new feature of the Watch Series 8 has got to be the new Temperature Sensor which Apple says “takes its commitment to women’s health even further”. These include tracking body temperatures overnight to give advanced menstrual cycle tracking, ovulation cycle and more.

There are two temperature sensors in place on the Watch Series 8 which Apple claims can reduce bias from the outside environment. In fact, it can even track temperature changes as little as 0.1-degree Celsius.

Besides that, the Watch Series 8 also sports two new motion sensors to detect if you’ve been involved in a serious car crash. Apple said that the feature will only run while the user is driving, which helps to preserve battery life.

Speaking of which, Apple said that the Watch Series 8 can last for 18 hours with regular use and up to 36 hours with the new Low Power Mode. The latter is available with watchOS 9 and is also available for Watch Series 4 and newer. It essentially turns off features such as the always-on display, auto-workout tracking and more to extend the battery life.

Other notable new features include faster charging, improved durability, a new S8 chip, international roaming for the cellular models and new colour options. The Watch Series 8 aluminium comes in 4 colours, namely midnight, starlight, silver, and red. Meanwhile, the stainless steel model is available in silver, gold, and graphite.
