After nearly 7 years, Apple has finally agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit brought forth by owners of the iPhone 4s back in 2015 after the iOS 9 update that year made the performance on the phone worse. As a result, Apple will be giving a USD15 or ~RM65 compensation each to those affected.
Filed way back in December 2015, the plaintiffs represented a group of iPhone 4S customers from New York and New Jersey in the United States. Under the settlement, Apple allocated USD20 million or ~RM87.5 million in compensating affected iPhone 4S owners in both US states.
As reported by Macrumours, the class-action lawsuit accused Apple of falsely marketing the iOS 9 update as providing ‘enchanted performance’ on the iPhone 4S. Instead, the update caused significantly slowed performance on the device.
Well, better late than never I guess. For owners of the iPhone 4S, I don’t think it’s about the money - surely not for ~RM65 - but it’s about sending a message to big tech companies such as Apple regarding consumer rights.
