During the WWDC 2016, Apple has unveiled the next successor to its current Mac operating system the OS X 10.11 El Capitan - the macOS Sierra. Sierra promises new window tab support across multiple apps, copy and paste between devices, Siri integration, and more. It's also noted that macOS is a new naming structure so that it's consistent with the rest of the software platforms like iOS, watchOS and tvOS. Anyway, here's what we found out about Sierra.

masOS Continuity has the ability to access files on the desktop and Documents folder on any Mac, iOS device, or even a PC making it very flexible. How it's done is it will allow users to access these files on an iPhone and iPad via the iCloud Drive app, through iCloud.com, or using the iCloud for Windows app. Files will be available on the desktop and in the Documents folder if a user logs into a second Mac,

As for copy and paste between devices, this is where 'Universal Clipboard' comes in. It's a feature that allows the user to automatically copy text, photos, and more from an iPhone or iPad, and instantly paste them on a Mac. In other words, this as an advance version of copy and paste.

Next, 'Auto Unlock' is a new security feature by Sierra that enables Apple Watch users to gain access to their locked Mac by simply walking into its zone, the locked Mac can automatically unlock as long it can detect the user with the wearable.

The apps in macOS such as Maps, Mail, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and TextEdit, as well as compatible third-party apps are getting an extending tabs feature in Safari. For example, a user can browse multiple locations on Maps without losing their place; or in Pages, the user can copy and paste Pages in fullscreen mode, or jump between multiple email drafts in Mail.

In addition, Picture-in-Picture feature which can be found in iOS 9.3 is coming to Sierra, so floating a video from Safari or iTunes to a window on the desktop while working is now possible. Video windows will be resizable, draggable, and able to be pinned to the corner of the screen.

Apple is also upgrading new goodies for Photos app. Like the iOS 10, it will also have Memories feature that can automatically sort pictures based on people, location, animals and others.

If you have too many pictures, Sierra got that covered with Optimized Storage, this feature can free up space when the desktop is getting full by storing infrequently used items in iCloud;

Other than that, there's also an incoming enhanced Messages app and an updated version of Apple Music in iTunes, which is probably going to be a facelift only just like the one in iOS 10.

macOS Sierra is available to developers for testing today. Apple says a public beta will be launched in July, while the final public release is coming in the fall. We also did some digging on iOS 10 and watchOS, so feel free to check out those links and stay tuned for more news at Technave.com.
