The Apple Vision Pro is one of Apple's high-end techs that cater to a niche market. That said, there is a new report that Apple is decreasing the Vision Pro production and could stop manufacturing by the end of the year.
Multiple people who are involved with the Vision Pro production told the source that since early summer, the manufacturing scale has "sharply" dropped. That's not to say that the Vision Pro did not meet sales expectations but rather, Apple has enough inventory to meet the niche market demand in the foreseeable future.
In addition, the source also said the Vision Pro assembly could be suspended as early as November, as there are more than enough components by suppliers with roughly 600,000 headsets. Luxshare, the assembler for the Vision Pro also halved production by up to 1,000 units a day due to the weak sales forecast.
The Vision Pro is officially $3,500 (~RM15.2K) and it's understandably expensive. Even more so than Meta's Quest VR headset that's just only $300 (~RM1.3K). So far, Counterpoint Research reported around 370,000 Vision Pro units have been sold in the first quarter of this year and is estimated to be sold 50,000 more units by 2024.
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the Vision Pro is not a "mass-market product", as it's for "people who want to have tomorrow’s technology today—that’s who it’s for". With its high price tag, it's no wonder that the AR headset is still not in the Malaysian market.
