Apple launched a Self Service Repair programme back in April that covers a majority of its iPhone lineup. Now, the tech giant has announced an expansion to the programme to include its laptop lineup, namely the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

In a press release today, Apple says that starting today (23 August 2022), MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models powered by the M1-family SoC can obtain repair manuals and genuine Apple parts and tools through the Apple Self Service Repair Store in the United States. Moreover, over a dozen different repair types are offered for each model, such as the top case with battery, trackpad and display.

According to the statement, more parts will also be offered for MacBook models in the future too. The company stressed that the Self Service Repair is part of its efforts to further expand access to repairs. However, Apple advises the vast majority of customers who do not have experience repairing electronic devices to visit a professional repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts rather than doing it themselves.

Do note that for now, it’s only available in the United States, but Apple does reiterate that the programme will expand to additional countries later this year, starting with Europe. As of right now, it is unclear whether the programme will ever be expanded to Malaysia before the end of 2022.
