The recently held WWDC 2022 event by Apple introduced a lot of new features and improvements for iPhones and iPads via iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 respectively. For the latter, among the most notable addition has got to be the ‘Stage Manager’ feature which allows users to resize apps into overlapping windows, a feature similarly found on new macOS Ventura.

While this new addition makes the iPad one step closer to being a computer replacement in terms of software, it seems that only iPads that are powered by the M1 SoC will have the privilege to get the feature. This is because Apple has clarified that iPads that run on its mobile A-series bionic chips will not get Stage Manager, which includes the iPad Pro 2020 which is only 2 years old.

Apple recently elaborated on the decision via a statement shared with popular tech YouTuber Rene Ritchie, saying that the Stage Manager experience requires “large internal memory, incredibly fast storage and flexible external display I/O,". Hence, only the M1-powered iPads are able to run the feature smoothly.

Apple further asserted that Stage Manager is a fully integrated experience that provides all-new windowing experience. It is incredibly fast and responsive and allow users to run 8 apps simultaneously across iPad and an external display with up to 6K resolution.

Hence, for those using iPads other than the latest iPad Pro lineup as well as the latest iPad Air will definitely be left disappointed that their devices won’t get this shiny new feature. Nevertheless, they are still other new features and improvement to look out for in iPadOS 16 which you can read more in depth on here.

Speaking of which, iPadOS 16 and iOS 16 will be available for download for supported Apple devices starting September 2022. So, what do you guys think of this decision by Apple to limit Stage Manager only to M1-powered iPads?
