When the iPhone 16e was revealed, many tech media found a couple of missing or lesser features than the standard iPhone 16. One of the missing features is none other than MagSafe charging. Why did Apple remove it? Well...
According to John Gruber from Daring Fireball, Apple representatives told him that "most people in the 16e’s target audience exclusively charge their phones by plugging them into a charging cable". So yes, apparently the target audience doesn't really use MagSafe charging at all, nor do they care if the "16e is stuck with a pokey 7.5W Qi charging speed".
It is a bit baffling to hear that, but then again, perhaps Apple did research and its homework well on the target audience who isn't tech enthusiasts. After all, the casual users, who are the majority of the consumers in the smartphone industry, would not know the difference between the numbers. As Gruber quotes it, "They want a phone that looks good, with a good display, a decent camera, and long battery life."
To recap, the iPhone 16e's starting price is RM2,999, and it officially launches today (28 February) across the nation. To learn more about the tech specs, you can check out our news coverage here.
