The Apple iPad Air 2 was officially announced yesterday. At first glance, the overall design may look the same but the tablet is now 18% thinner at 6.1mm thin and 435g. Other notable design changes include removing the mute button and slanting the volume rocker diagonally, allowing the tablet to achieve it's 6.1mm thinness. Apple also laminated it's 9.7-inch screen, combining the cover glass, touch sensor and LCD into one thinner optically fused layer. However, resolution remains the same at 2048 x 1536 pixels, but at least Apple have included an anti-reflective coating as well.
Notable new tech specs and features includes a faster Apple A8X processor with M8 co-processor, an 8MP iSight rear camera and Touch ID fingerprint sensor that supports Apple Pay. No news yet if it uses 2GB of RAM but it does offer 20 4G LTE bands with 150mbps downlink speeds and 802.11ac WiFi. New features include a burst mode for the 8MP rear camera along with 1080p video recording, time-lapse video and slow motion video recording.
On top of space grey and silver, the iPad Air 2 also comes with a champagne gold version as well. The iPad Air 2 comes with iOS 8 right out of the box along with the same 10-hour battery as before. Strangely enough, there are no 32GB storage versions, instead jumping straight to 64GB after 16GB and then going all the way up to 128GB.
