Apple removes Epic Games developer account in escalating feud

When Epic Games sued Apple last week over the removal of Fortnite from its App Store, you'd think that things would simmer down before the two companies settle things in court. But Apple isn't going to take things lying down and has banned the former's developer account. And funny enough, this will happen a fortnight from the date that Fortnite was removed. Looks like Apple is feeling cheeky here...

According to 9to5Mac, Epic Games has revealed that Apple plans to terminate all developer accounts for Epic Games on 28 August 2020. When this happens, Epic Games will lose all access to iOS and Mac development tools. As a result, Epic Games claims that Apple is attacking its entire business with this move. Allegedly, the lack of access to the tools mentioned above would affect the development of future versions of the Unreal Engine for iOS and macOS.

Previously, Apple has stated that it works with Epic Games to resolve the latter's violation so that Fortnite can be reinstated in the App Store. But that was before Epic Games decided to escalate with its 1984 parody to mock the former. Now, Epic Games has to ask the Northern California courts for help in preventing its developer accounts being terminated.

This case is worth noting because if the courts were to favour Epic Games, it could set a precedent for other mobile game developers to set up their own payment systems.
