Apple’s upcoming Mac Pro may combine two M1 Ultra chips into a powerful single 40-core SoC!

At the tail end of Apple’s ‘Peek Performance’ event last week, the tech giant teased that the Mac Pro will also transition to Apple Silicon like the rest of the Mac lineup. Now, a new leak regarding the upcoming Mac Pro may shed some light into what SoC would be powering the device, and it’s going to be unprecedented!

Serial tipster Majin Bu yesterday tweeted an image leak of an alleged schematic for a new interconnect bridge that one-ups the one utilised in the M1 Ultra SoC. Get this, the new technology is claimed to be able to connect two M1 Ultra chips together, essentially creating a fusion of four M1 Max SoC, considering the M1 Ultra itself is the combination of two M1 Max SoC.

Majin Bu further claimed that this upcoming Apple Silicon will be called ‘Redfern’ and is set to launch this September with the Mac Pro. Moreover, the leak said that the unprecedented four-chip fusion is made possible with the new long bridge interconnect that sits in between the two chips, in addition to the other two interconnect already found inside both M1 Ultra chips.

Furthermore, this new bridging technology is alleged to has overcome the limitation of its previous versions which can only support up to 128GB RAM. If this leak is true, we can expect an incredibly powerful Apple Silicon that has a whopping 40-core CPU, 128-core GPU and 64 Neural Engine cores!

However, as this is nothing but an alleged leak, please take this information with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, given the M1 Ultra name and the leaker being someone named ‘Majin Bu’, I’m quite disappointed that the SoC is codenamed ‘Redfern’ and not ’M1 Ultra Instinct’.
