CES 2022: Samsung reveal new Flex S and G panels for foldable devices

When it comes to foldable devices, two main designs are popular. The first is the small tablet that folds inwards or outwards, while the other is the clamshell design. Of course, other designs like the tri-fold are being considered, and Samsung took the opportunity to show them off at CES 2022.

According to Sammobile, Samsung showcased two new types of foldable panels. The first one is the Flex S, which is a panel that folds in an S shape (hence the name). This type of tri-fold device isn't new, as TCL had a proof-of-concept back in 2020. Anyway, Samsung had two prototypes at the event. One unfolds into a large tablet, while the other one is a smaller smartphone-sized device.

The other panel type also folds twice, though it folds inwards into a 'G' shape so it's given the name Flex G. As you can see in the video above, the screen is divided into three parts, with the two sides folding inwards. This type of device has better protection against scratches and impacts, as it's not exposed when folded.

Of course, these are only prototypes, so don't expect an official product anytime soon. Having said that, do you like these two form factors or is there a design that you think is better? Share your thoughts in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave more CES 2022 coverage.
