Comparison: realme XT vs Samsung Galaxy A70

Welcome to another round of smartphone comparisons and in this article, we have the realme XT vs the Samsung Galaxy A70 where both are in the mid-range category and both have similar features. That said, the two devices are in somewhat different price ranges.

While the realme XT has just been announced for RM1399, the Galaxy A70 is officially going for RM1799 but you know how the saying goes - the more expensive it is, the better the product... or is it? We will be diving into the design, tech specs, as well as the performance and features so let's get it on!

Design - Beautiful Clones

At first glance, people would think the realme XT has a more beautiful design and we can't blame them for that. The realme XT design is the company's best-looking phone yet, as it features a unique vase-like reflection from the side and our favourite one is the Pearl White model (Pearl Blue is nice too if that's what you prefer). But don't be mistaken, the Galaxy A70 back design is also quite a looker in the right light.

The back design is quite similar

You can see the vase-like reflection on the realme XT, but there's some rainbow reflection too on the Galaxy A70 if you shine some light on it

On the Galaxy A70's back design, it's using a "glasstic" (high-quality acrylic glass) material with a 3D reflection that can shine some rainbow-like light patterns as well. Comparing this with the realme XT, both are almost identical, but there is a slight difference - only the realme XT has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 all around the body which is pretty tough should it ever take a fall.

Tech specs - Mighty Mixed Midrangers

For the tech specs, both the realme XT and Galaxy A70 have some advantages over each other. For instance, the realme XT is using a Snapdragon 712 (10nm) chipset which performs better over the Galaxy A70's Snapdragon 675 (11 nm) chipset. But on the other hand, the latter has a bigger battery pack of 4500mAh over realme XT's still large 4000mAh battery.

As for the camera, the realme XT has a 64MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP quad rear camera, and the Galaxy A70 only has three - 32MP + 8MP + 5MP. However, the Galaxy A70 has a huge 32MP front-facing camera, and the realme XT's front camera is just half of that at 16MP. Besides that, both have the same memory capacity - 8GB of RAM and 128GB ROM, which is plenty for a midranger.

Performance and features - Depends if you prefer bright photos

While the realme XT has an extra camera which is a macro lens, it's not every day that people would use it. We also noticed that the Galaxy A70 photo quality tend to be darker for some reason, as well as having a more obvious fish-eye effect in ultra-wide mode. The bokeh effect seems to do a better job too, but then again, some users might not like it to be too heavy. You can check out the photo samples below.

Another sample, both are quite fine so it depends on your preference

Bonus round - the realme XT has a hybrid zoom up to 5x!

Lastly, the selfie between the two phones - 16MP (realme XT) vs 32MP (Galaxy A70)

In other features, both phones have a fast-charging technology at different speeds (20W vs 25W) and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The realme XT also has a Dolby Atmos sound system but it's best to have an earphone and headphone for the best audio experience.

Price and conclusion - All it takes is the right price

From our experiments above, the realme XT and Samsung Galaxy A70 have some advantages over one another. Both are really nice looking phones with tech specs that aren't so far apart, but personally I'm leaning towards the realme XT's camera capabilities because it has an extra macro lens (for more #swag photo opportunities!). Then again, not everyone needs that. Also, the Galaxy A70 has a nicer selfie photo.

Knowing our Malaysian characteristic, people might favour the realme XT due to one factor - the RM1399 price tag which is RM400 cheaper than the latter. The realme XT is available right now at its official realme online store here, and the same goes for the Galaxy A70 at Samsung's online store here. BUT what do you folks think?
