Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that his administration will be reviewing the plan for Digital Nasional Bhd’s (DNB) 5G network rollout, citing the lack of transparency. DNB has since responded, saying that it welcomes the review and pledged to give full cooperation.

As reported by The Edge Markets, DNB also insisted that the tender process for the 5G network rollout was done transparently. In a statement yesterday, the state-owned company said that the tender process was managed by Ernst & Young Consulting Sdn Bhd, one of the top four global accounting firms.

DNB further asserted that it hopes that the proposed review would clear the air regarding the tender process. Moreover, the company hopes that the review will enable full execution and implementation of the 5G rollout in Malaysia for the benefit of the people.

Since its inception, DNB’s single ownership of spectrum raised concerns from major carriers over pricing, transparency and monopoly. The 5G network subscription agreement between DNB and major mobile network operators have been signed earlier this year, with 5 out of the 6 telcos already offering 5G services to end users.
