DOSM Chief: Last-minute PADU sign-ups can cause the system to be “jammed”

Chief Statistician of the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin has warned Malaysians against registering for the Central Database Hub (PADU) at the last minute. This is because doing so can cause the system to get congested.

According to Bernama, Uzir said that currently, the records show that more senior citizens have signed up for PADU compared to the younger, more tech-savvy citizens. He attributed this to senior citizens in rural areas who are not technology illiterate having help registering for the system.

However, Malaysians who can register on their own know the deadline is 31 March and might think that they can register at the last minute. However, the Chief Statistician advised against this, saying that the system is like a highway and it will be congested if everyone logs in at the last minute.

Recently, PADU passed the 2 million registration mark, with the exact number being 2.38 million sign-ups as of yesterday (1 Feb). However, this is still far from the 29 million registrations by 31 March targeted by the government.
