
Previously, we reported that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is collecting mobile phone call data from telco companies in Malaysia, which Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil assured is only for statistics to be used for evidence-based policymaking. Now, the Digital Ministry has also urged the public not to be worried about any invasion of privacy, as the matter is protected by law.
Digital Ministry assures that personal information is protected under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010
Bernama quoted Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong as saying that personal information is protected under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Hence, Malaysians need not worry about data breaches.
He added that the Government has taken the necessary measures to safeguard personal data and urged Malaysians to trust its commitment to data security.
Wilson added that CyberSecurity Malaysia monitors the system 24/7 to detect and fend off hacking attempts, hence, the public must have confidence in the national data security system.
