Dimensity 9200+ could outperform Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

When it comes to mobile devices, the performance of the hardware can be quite important. While not always at the level of making or breaking a deal, but some people could choose a phone with chipset A over chipset B. And this could happen with the next-gen Dimensity 9200+, based on a benchmark.

Through Digital Chat Station, we've got our first benchmark score for MediaTek's next flagship chipset - the Dimensity 9200+. The tipster posted a Geekbench 6 CPU benchmark for a phone powered by the MediaTek 4nm chipset, which scored 2121 points and 5655 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. For reference, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device can score up to 1483 points and 4959 points (score via NanoReview).

The Antutu benchmark looks less one-sided (check Antutu website for scores of other devices)

Mind you, we don't know which device this benchmark performed on. Could this be an engineering sample that's clocked at higher speeds to get a higher score? MediaTek could also be cheating the benchmark app like it was previously caught doing. Specifically, the device could be running without anything other than the OS in the background, which may result in higher scores.

Overall, it's best to take any claims of this chipset being better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with a grain of salt. After all, we still don't know how well the GPU would perform, or if it has lower battery consumption. But the Dimensity 9200+ will launch soon on 10 May 2023, so stay tuned to TechNave for more updates about it.
