As you may have heard, Samsung got into trouble due to the Game Optimization Service (GOS) app throttling controversy. In order to rectify the issue, the company has announced plans to develop a new Application Processor (AP) exclusively for the Samsung Galaxy phone lineup.

In case you missed it, the GOS is designed to optimize the phone's performance to prevent it from heating up and consuming too much power when playing high-end mobile games. While it may look like a good intention, Samsung got criticised for making it mandatory and not giving users the choice.

As for Dr TM Roh's announcement of making a new AP, it also seems weird because the Galaxy S series has always been using the Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets. However, sources say his comments can be an interpretation as an intention to change the image. Besides appearing in Galaxy phones, Exynos chipsets are also available in vivo and Meizu phones recently.

Sources also mentioned that Exynos is also weakening Samsung's position in the AP market. In 2021, a market research firm reported Samsung only shared 6.6% in the AP market which is very low if compared to Apple (26%), MediaTek (26.3%) and Qualcomm (37.7%).

It will take Samsung a long time before revealing a new chipset (whenever it is). So until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
