E3 2021 to be completely open to the public

Unfortunately, there was no E3 last year, but the event is expected to return this year as an all-digital show. For the average person, this means that you can see all the new games and demos that developers have in store for us in 2021 and beyond. What's more, this event will be completely open to the public.

According to Video Games Chronicle, it was previously rumoured that the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) planned to charge some money for the event. Specifically, the idea was to lock certain content like demos for highly-anticipated games behind a paywall. Publishers were even asked what they thought of a 'premium' package, which would have cost USD 35 (~RM145). However, a spokesperson for the ESA has confirmed that there will be no payment required for any E3 2021 content. On the contrary, this year's event is expected to be completely free.

E3 2021 will be a week-long event that starts on 13 June, with live broadcasts to be held from 15 to 17 June. Gamers can access the event's other experiences via an official E3 app. The ESA is also planning to partner up with Nvidia to use the GeForce Now cloud gaming platform to showcase game demos. In line with the changes, E3 will now stand for Electronic Entertainment Experience (rather than 'expo').

It's great to see that E3 is finally going "free to play" (heh!), as it means everyone can watch the industrial keynotes and normally exclusive demos. Having said that, what's a game that you're most looking forward to in 2021? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to TechNave for further updates.
