Previously, we mentioned how Apple could remove the USB-C port on the iPhone 17 Air. Now, the EU has approved for iPhones to be sold in the UK without USB-C ports. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, a European Commission (EC) representative confirmed that there is no obstacle to offering smartphones without USB-C as long as they support a previously standardized wireless charging system. Apple has already given access to its MagSafe charging system to all manufacturers who want to use it. MagSafe is an extension of the Qi2 standard that the industry has adopted as the preferred wireless charging system.
Because it is not a system that is exclusive to Apple, the EC has no objection to non-USB-C devices that support Qi2 and MagSafe in the future. This opens the door to the possibility that next year the era of smartphones without charging ports will begin to be offered to the public and Apple will no longer have to worry about their innovation being restricted by EU law.
We have yet to confirm other details on the news or if this variant will be available in Malaysia. So, we should wait for more details from Apple. Hopefully, everything will be sorted out soon.
