The average gamer may recognise Epic Games as a company that loves to give out free games. But if you're not into PC games, you probably remember Epic Games only for its lawsuit against Apple and Google a few years ago. Now, the company has filed a lawsuit against Google and Samsung.
Epic Games is suing Google and Samsung for blocking competition in app distribution on Samsung devices. Epic Games claims that the Samsung Galaxy Store has an Auto Blocker that's on by default and that the Auto Blocker "cements the Google Play Store as the only viable way to get apps on Samsung devices, blocking every other store from competing on a level playing field."
Feels exaggerated, but you need 21 steps to finish installing an app that's not from the Samsung or Google app stores
Basically, the Auto Blocker makes it so that downloading apps from other platforms (such as the Epic Games Store) would require a lot of extra steps. Epic Games has accused this of being illegal, as it undermines a previous Epic versus Google court case's jury's decision. If you're curious, you can check out the full story here.
