That's right, you're not reading the title wrongly. We actually do have the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) model in our hands and wow does it sure look different (in a good way) from what we expected, even by comparing it to the render concept that we did yesterday and it's a no-brainer that it looks very shiny. So without further ado, check out our first impression of the smartphone below with exclusive hands-on pictures!
To start it off, the Galaxy A8 (2018) is a mid-range device housing an octa-core Exynos 7885 processor with 2.2GHz Dual + 16GHz Hexa, memory capacity is running at 4GB of RAM and the storage is 32GB worth of space. Also, as you can see the overall design, it's using a combination of 2.5D + 3D glass, covering the full metal body so I'd be careful if I were you. The Super AMOLED display size is measured at 5.6-inch and its resolution is 2220 x 1080 (FHD+)
On the back, you can see the fingerprint scanner is located just below the main camera (16MP, PDFA, F/1.7). Honestly, this is a way better position than just putting it beside the LED flash or the camera
Meanwhile, there is a pair of cameras upfront - a dual 16MP + 8MP camera sensor with an aperture of F/1.9 for each. If you're wondering what is the secondary camera is for, it's the same as the Galaxy Note 8 with the Live Focus feature to create the bokeh effect
Moving on, the right side of the phone is a bit unique but it's not the first time we've seen this, as it's a norm for Samsung mid-range devices. The power button is right there and so as the speaker (it's the only one) and personally, I quite like the speaker position there
On the other side, that's where the volume rockers are and the single SIM card slot tray. Don't fret, there's a second SIM card slot tray just above the phone. Moreover, the phone size is measured 149.2 x 70.6 x 8.4 mm
Here's your second SIM card slot tray. Oh, also it allows you to expand your phone's memory up to 256GB via microSD card
The Galaxy A8 (2018) also supports USB Type-C and a headphone jack port. By the way, fast charging technology is also on board and the battery capacity is 3000mAh
Other than that, other features worth mentioning that it sports an IP68 water and dust resistant grade, Samsung Pay (MST + NFC), a digital video stabilizer and Bixby assist (no dedicated Bixby button, though). There is also a Galaxy A8+ (2018) variant but it's not in Malaysia yet (we swear!), so we will be doing a hands-on video and a future review of the Galaxy A8 (2018) in the near future, so do stay tuned for that at TechNave.com!
