Facebook U-turns on decision to sell ads on WhatsApp

In May 2019, Facebook announced that it will start selling ads on WhatsApp in 2020. However, it seems like the company has decided to drop that plan. Facebook has since disbanded the team that was formed to work on this project and remove all related coding from the app itself.

According to Engadget, Facebook had wanted to include ads into the Status of users in the regular WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business apps, kind of like what was done for Instagram with Stories. For now, Facebook has suspended the plans to do so. But that may not be a permanent decision as the company could still look towards introducing some form of advertising in the widely used messaging system much later. In our opinion, there's no way that Facebook will give up an opportunity to cash in on a platform with such a large userbase.

With that said, what are your thoughts of ads in WhatsApp? Are you fine with it or would it cause you to uninstall the app? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
