It's now day 6 of the Movement Restriction Order and many of us have been staying indoors more than ever. With this, Internet usage have also increased and you may have noticed that your respective Telco and Internet providers network are slower as well. Besides, YouTube and Netflix have already reduced the video quality just so that they can free up the Internet space.

In this latest news, it has been announced by Facebook that the company will reduce the video bitrates temporarily in Europe. Like other streaming brands, this will allow European networks to deal with the huge amount of users for Facebook as well as for Instagram. Below is the official statement by a Facebook spokesperson:

"To help alleviate any potential network congestion, we will temporarily reduce bit rates for videos on Facebook and Instagram in Europe. We are committed to working with our partners to manage any bandwidth constraints during this period of heavy demand, while also ensuring people are able to remain connected using Facebook apps and services during the COVID-19 pandemic."

Although this is taking effect in Europe, we won't be surprised if this happens in Malaysia too as some users are already experiencing low YouTube video resolutions and slower loading time on our Facebook app. This is annoying for sure but will ease those who are working remotely from home.
