Facebook considers hiding like counts on posts

Facebook has confirmed that they are thinking about testing the waters when it comes to hiding like counts. App researcher Jane Manchung Wong had found the code inside Facebook’s Android app.

The number of likes will only be visible to the original poster but not to others. People looking at the post can only see their friends’ reactions to the posts instead of the specific number of people. However, Facebook has not started running the tests yet or confirmed what countries will be partaking in the tests.

Earlier this year, Instagram had also tested hiding like counts on their posts. The test was a huge hit with users who participated giving positive feedback of the experience. With the success of the feature on IG, it’s no surprise that Facebook hopped onto the bandwagon as well.

Many users had mentioned how likes made them feel bad and messed with their self esteem. By removing the likes feature, some pressure could be alleviated and in turn, improve social media users’ mental health. Do you agree with the hiding likes feature?
