In a recent Threads post, Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook stated that “glasses will be the next major computing platform”. While he has been rather inaccurate before (Metaverse, etc.), with the recent Meta Smart Glasses, this could be quite feasible. However, with the previous failure of Google Glass, it raises the question of “are users ready for it?”

For those who don’t remember, Google Glass was Google’s wearable computer eyepiece that would give you Terminator-vision complete with augmented reality and popup heads-up information. While reception amongst tech reviewers was mixed, the public had critical concerns about privacy. Fast forward to 2023 with the Meta Smart Glasses that collaborated with Ray-Ban to create stylish smart glasses with built-in cameras and it seems like people don't seem to care as much now.

While Apple’s Vision Pro didn’t do so well, recent smart glasses have wowed almost everyone with a vision for the future of smart computing via Augmented Reality. If Meta started selling their Smart Glasses here in Malaysia would you pick up a pair? Would you still use it even if you’d just had LASIK eye surgery?
