Facebook will start hiding likes later today

Following the footsteps of Instagram, Facebook will begin hiding likes on users’ posts starting later today. Only the original poster (OP) will only be able to see the number of reactions, views and likes. Us Malaysians don’t have to freak out just yet, though, as the experiment will be taking place in Australia for now.

Facebook mentions that this is a limited test where the reactions, views and like counts are made private across the platform in Australia. From there, they will be gathering feedback to see if this move makes people’s experience on the platform more enjoyable.

How the likes look like when hidden

Instagram had conducted the same experiment earlier this year in seven countries which are Australia, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy and Japan. So far, the experiment had garnered a lot of positive feedback. This was done to promote alleviate the pressure and improve mental health for the social media platform’s users.

It is likely that the experiment on Facebook will eventually be taking place in other countries as well. However, we have no idea if it will be making its way here to Malaysia. Fingers crossed that is does because I am curious to see how us Malaysians would react to it. Keep up with the latest social media news on TechNave.com!
