Previously, we reported how social media and internet messaging services in Malaysia must apply for a Class Licence beginning today. Now, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has clarified that the licence is only meant for social media and internet messaging operators, hence it won’t affect individual users.
Bernama quoted Fahmi as saying that the new regulation doesn’t apply to users of social media platforms. The Communications Minister added that users do not need to obtain the licence as the licensing requirement only applies to social media service providers.
He was debunking the claims made by some parties who are spreading misinformation about the new regulation. Accordingly, Fahmi stressed that individual users are not affected by the licence requirement, including influencers.
He also announced that MCMC has published an FAQ explaining about the licensing system for the public’s reference. You can view it here.
