Previously, we shared how Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his dissatisfaction at the rollout delays of the second 5G network by Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), as well as the MyDigital ID initiative by the company with the same namesake. Now, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that Anwar has given both MyDigital ID and DNB a deadline to tackle the delays of both initiatives’ rollout.
According to Bernama, Fahmi said the Prime Minister had given the two companies until mid-December to tackle the delays in the implementation of MyDigital ID and the second 5G network. For MyDigital ID, Fahmi said Anwar considered its implementation to be late as only 1.319 million Malaysians have registered in the database as of 5 December.
For the second 5G network rollout, Fahmi asserted that DNB has been given time until next week to submit a new business plan for the network's rollout. Prior to this, there was a delay in finalising the Shareholding Agreement which resulted in a delay in opening the tender process for the second network.
DNB has since requested until January 2025 to submit their business plan. However, the Prime Minister has asked for it to be submitted this month instead.
