Anwar is disappointed of how the second 5G Network and MyDigital ID were handled

As we slowly approach the end of 2024, there should be a few things that we are happy to accomplish this year. However, our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his disappointment on two things - the rollout of the second 5G network and the MyDigital ID initiative.

According to Anwar, MyDigital ID is actually behind schedule by a year which is not good. If you recall, MyDigital ID was initially supposed to be compulsory to log into the MyJPJ app on 10 October 2024. After a disaster of handling new registrations by the users, Transport Minister Anthony Loke decided to call it off for now. MyDigital ID apologized for the messy situation but also said it's not entirely its fault.

On the other hand, while the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced U Mobile was chosen as the second 5G network provider, this was also behind schedule. This is due to stalled negotiations which were not received well from all the telcos and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB).

“This has caused me to lose some patience,” said Anwar. “These delays reflect negligence. How can we advance towards AI (artificial intelligence) when the basic (digital infrastructure) that should have been established is still unfinished?” he said.

Before he ended his speech, Anwar believed he overreacted but defended himself as a human with flaws. He was just frustrated because of his high expectations that were not met and hoped his apology would be accepted.
