With electric vehicles (EVs) on the rise, Proton CEO Li Chunrong told the media that its own EV is going to launch "very soon". No specific date is set but not only will we get to see one, in fact, there will be two EVs in the plan.
According to the CEO, the second EV could follow up between six to eight months after the first launch. If this goes through, it will align with what Proton Chairman Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar said last year in November, during the Proton S70 launch, as well as with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry's (MITI) target.
For context, the minister of MITI, Liew Chin Tong had set a target expectation for both Proton and Perodua to manufacture the first national EV by 2025. It's still a long way to go but if Proton succeeds, then the company would be ahead of schedule. By the way, Proton did an EV eight years ago but it was never followed through.
There's still plenty of time, so we have to wait and see. The latest vehicle that Proton released was the S70 with a starting price of RM73,800. You can visit our news coverage right here to check it out.
