First-gen AirPods Pro users are seeing “Adaptive Transparency” option after updating to iOS 16.1 beta

Apple recently refreshed its AirPods Pro lineup with the second-generation version having some notable improvements over the original, including a new “Adaptive Transparency” mode. However, despite the new mode being exclusive to the second-gen Airpods Pro, some users are seeing the option to have it enabled on their first-gen AirPods Pro in iOS 16.1 beta 3.

It is unclear whether this was a mistake on the part of Apple when releasing the latest iOS beta or the new feature is actually coming to the first-gen AirPods Pro. The former is more likely though as during the unveiling of the second-gen AirPods Pro, Apple said that the Adaptive Transparency feature requires the new H2 chip to work.

In case you’re not familiar, the Adaptive Transparency mode is an improvement to the Transparency mode found on the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Through the new mode, loud noises like sirens or power tools will be minimised.

According to some users on Reddit that are running iOS 16.1 beta 3 on their iPhones, the latest iOS beta also comes with a new AirPods beta firmware (build 5A304a) that enables Adaptive Transparency for the original AirPods Pro. However, it is unclear whether the new mode actually works on the original AirPods Pro. Well, let’s wait until the next version of the beta to see if it’s a feature or a bug.
