The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) of Malaysia recently announced that the first generation of Malaysia’s poor to get into an IPTA will get their education paid for. While it has not been approved yet, according to Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, it will be brought to the cabinet soon to reduce poverty through knowledge and skills.

The MoHE will explore hybrid education using both face to face and digital approaches for significant savings in educational costs. In addition, the MoHE recognizes the need for students and individuals to not just have the skills but also the smarts to manage human resources and technology well.

No timeline or dates were given as to when this would be implemented though, but we are reminded somewhat of the PerantiSiswa tablets which were also provided for free. For those who don’t remember what happened, some applicants who did get these tablets tried to sell them online, and there were many applicants who actually wanted these devices but did not receive them.

We hope that this time, the applicants for free higher education will be chosen well so that those who really, really need this can benefit. What do you think about this? How would you make sure that this free high tech education goes to the right students? Share your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com
