Apple's court woes are not over just yet. Not long after having to pay a settlement to the California court, the tech giant could now be fined by the French Competition Authority for anti-competitive practices. The official announcement is expected to be made next Monday.
According to Reuters, Apple paid 25 million euros (~RM120 million) to the French authority earlier this year for not telling iPhone users of the updates that will slow down the device. It is for this exact reason that Apple had to pay the California court a hefty USD500 million (~RM2 billion). This time around, the French Competition Authority wants to fine the company on its anti-competitive distribution and sales network.
The exact details on the case were not given, but we expect the fine this time to be a big one. In December last year, France levied a 150 million Euros (~RM717 million) fine on Google for its lack of transparency in advertising rules. If Google ended up being hit that hard for vague rules, it's also likely that the authorities will come down hard on Apple for its anti-competition behaviour.
Regardless, we'll find out more about this next Monday. For now, we'd like to know what you think about some of Apple's business practices. Has Apple done no wrong or do you think they deserve to be fined? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
