Galaxy AI in 2025: A reliable AI companion for your daily lives

When Samsung first launched the Galaxy AI with the Galaxy S24 series last year, it came with features that help with our daily activities. This includes image-based search, summarising text, and translating languages. For a recap on the features introduced last year (like Circle to Search) check our article here.

Of course, Samsung is always looking to improve Galaxy AI. For 2025, Samsung has introduced new features to Galaxy AI, starting with the Galaxy S25 series. Here's an overview of new Galaxy AI features we've encountered.

Now Brief + Now Bar

Most AI features in smartphones are designed to assist the user in some way. Galaxy AI has expanded on that this year with a new feature named "Now Brief". If the name isn't clear enough, Now Brief was designed to provide the user with a brief overview of the day. More importantly, it's a 'snapshot' of the current time of day.

Anyway, the overview will provide you with various information. This includes the current weather, things you have to do for the day (if you have a to-do list), or YouTube video recommendations. It may also show you reminders of important dates like scheduled meetings or expiring vouchers. While it may sound simple, Now Brief can be convenient for some users, depending on how you use the features and apps on the phone.

Best of all, Now Brief can send notifications to recommend when it's best to depart to reach your scheduled appointments (base on calendar) on time. If there's bad weather, it can also send alerts to let you know about it, so you can leave earlier.

Galaxy AI can also provide some info via notifications on the lock screen. This "Now Bar" feature can display notifications of what's happening with active apps. For example, it can show what song it's currently playing. Now Brief can also track the stopwatch app's timer or display directions to a destination from Google Maps providing directions to a destination.

You can think of Now Bar as a simplified (but more practical) version of Now Brief. Since it's displayed on the lock screen, you're more likely to use it daily. After all, you'll definitely see the lock screen when you unlock the phone.

Seamless actions across apps

Another interesting aspect of the updated Galaxy AI (powered by Google Gemini) is how seamlessly it works between apps. The level of integration makes some processes easier, such as quickly sharing recommendations for dinner locations. You can long-press the side button, then insert a prompt (via text or speech) to search for a restaurant base on specific requirements (like location, type of cuisine, operating hours) and send the results to someone. As you can tell, this can save you a lot of time.

Similarly, you can use the side button to ask for specific dates (like football match schedules) and add them to your calendar. Another interesting integration is the YouTube app with Samsung Notes. When watching a YouTube video, the side button will have an "Ask about this video" option. You can tap on that and then ask Google Gemini about details in the video, or have the video summarised and saved as a note. This can be handy for learning from educational videos or planning holidays.

Gallery search

One more new AI feature we want to highlight is the Gallery Search. As the name suggests, Gallery Search can search for specific photos or videos in the Gallery with a text or voice prompt. For example, you can ask it to "find photos from my trip to Australia last year". Just press the search icon, tap on the prompt bar at the bottom, and then key in or voice out your prompt. It's a simple and fast way to find photos or videos you have trouble locating.
