Galaxy Unpacked 2025 roundup - What to expect on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Series?

By now, you should know that the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event is on 23 January 2025 (Malaysia time). But what can we expect from Samsung Electronics? The next-gen Galaxy S25 Series is no doubt the star of the show and there should be other announcements too. If you are still itching for more information, read below!

The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+

Starting with the base and Plus variants, they are expected to have the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset but a customised one with overclocked cores. This has been a tradition for Samsung Galaxy flagships over the years, but there is no word about an Exynos variant. That said, we think there might not be one. As we previously reported, the Galaxy S25 Series phones may not feature Exynos 2500 SoC since the company struggles with production.

In terms of size, there are conflicting reports on the standard Galaxy S25. One source said it could have a 6.17 or 6.2-inch AMOLED display but the more consistent one is the 6.36-inch AMOLED display in FHD+. Besides that, the Galaxy S25+ is likely to have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display in QHD+. Both should also offer a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as a 50MP (main) + 10MP (telephoto) + 12MP (ultrawide) triple rear camera setup, while the front camera is 12MP.

Last but not least, the Galaxy S25 is said to have a 4000mAh battery pack with 25W fast charging. That seems quite modest in comparison to the Galaxy S25+, which could have a bigger 4900mAh battery pack and a faster 45W charging speed. But what about the Galaxy S25 Ultra?

The Galaxy S25 Ultra

As for the Ultra variant, it will be packing all the best features. Like before, it should have an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Again, nothing about an Exynos version so far. The size is slightly larger than the Plus variant, measuring 6.9 inches with a second-gen Corning Gorilla Glass and a 120Hz LTPO display.

Sources are not quite clear on the front camera, but news about a 12MP snapper has been more consistent than 10MP. Other than that, the Ultra variant could have a quad rear camera module, using a 200MP (main) + 12MP (telephoto) + 50MP (periscope telephoto) a+ 50MP (ultrawide). As the biggest boy of the bunch, it could also have a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging and supports Qi2 wireless charging.

A potential Galaxy S25 Slim variant?

It is common to see three variants from the new Galaxy lineup but could there be a fourth member? Typically, the fourth variant would be an FE version after a few months of releasing the main lineup. But now, new rumours suggest that the fourth could be a Galaxy S25 Slim.

The Galaxy S25 Slim is rumoured to launch much later after the Galaxy S25 Series, perhaps in the second quarter of 2025. Rumours report that this new version could have a 7mm body which is quite thin. At the moment, the HONOR 200 Lite has the 'honor' of being the slimmest Android device, measuring 6.8mm in thickness.

If it is going to be slim, it may compromise some top-tier hardware specs. Sources suggest that it could have a Snapdragon 8 Lite chipset but feature either a 4700mAh or 5000mAh battery. It could even have a triple rear camera, using a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP2 sensor, a 50MP ultrawide and 50MP telephoto lenses with 3.5x optical zoom.

Design? More or less the same

Design leaks of the Galaxy S25 Series have been flowing out online for weeks. We can't say we are too surprised by the similarities. The only change we can see is the more rounded corners of the devices, instead of the rectangular box shape from before. Both @OnLeaks and @UniverseIce have similar findings, showing a nicer curved corner as seen in the images below.

Other features

According to sources, the Galaxy S25 Series could start with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Each model might have a couple of memory variants and will vary between regional markets.

AI will be an integral part of the Galaxy S25 Series, so it's something to look forward to. Samsung's One UI 7 (based on Android 15) will play a major role in delivering improved Galaxy AI tools and new design changes. Another rumoured feature is the support for a seamless update function, which allows users to install updates in the background while using the phone.

Besides that, we think the IP68 water and dust resistance rating could remain the same. There might be an improved ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and the trademark S-Pen should be included with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It is also said only the Ultra variant could come in a titanium body build.

Other potential Galaxy products

Aside from the Galaxy S25 Series, we can expect to see other new Galaxy products at the Galaxy Unpacked. First up, there is a good chance that the alleged Galaxy Ring 2 may make its debut. It was only a couple of days ago that Samsung posted new updates about the product. Long story short, the Galaxy Ring will have two new larger sizes - 14 and 15, as well as launching in 15 additional markets in February 2025, including Malaysia. For Samsung to post this news just days before Galaxy Unpacked, is a big teaser.

Next, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic was spotted in the GSMA database under the model number SM-L505U. The database suggests that it is a cellular watch type and designed for the US market. The last time when a Classic model appeared was with the Galaxy Watch 6 Series. Nothing much is known but it may sport a rotating bezel/dial. Also, the wearables are usually launched in the second half of the year, annually.

Speaking of that, some sources have reported Samsung is planning a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip FE foldable this year. It's anyone's guess when exactly it will be released but the Galaxy Z Series are also launched around that period. However, Samsung could surprise us with a Galaxy Z Flip FE at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked, which could potentially sport an Exynos 2400 chipset.

What about the prices?

Last but not least, this is perhaps the favourite sub-topic of the Galaxy S25 Series - how much will it cost? Well, Samsung Malaysia has been quite consistent with local prices over the years, though they did slightly increase due to inflation. The prices of the Galaxy S25 Series could be the same as the predecessors last year, which you can refer to below:

That sums up the roundup for the Galaxy S25 Series rumours. Which one are you looking forward to the most?
