Editor's note - On 11 April, we were updated by Google that Gemini Live supports Bahasa Indonesia, not Bahasa Malaysia, as we thought
For a few months, the Google Gemini App is free to download on most Android phones from the Google Play Store. To the uninitiated, it's an app that lets you chat with Gemini. Today, a source reported that Gemini Live can now understand Bahasa Malaysia.
According to the source, Gemini Live with Bahasa Malaysia language support is now live on the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 series globally. Gemini Live is a feature that was known as Project Astra years ago. It functions as an AI in the camera and can understand what it is looking at, as well as letting users have natural, free-flowing conversations. Apart from the newly added Bahasa Malaysia language, it also supports 45 other languages.
Gemini Live could use some improvements, though. It understands Bahasa Malaysia, but sometimes it will randomly speak in Bahasa Indonesia without being asked. Information accuracy is a bit wonky too, as it insists that the Galaxy A56 is a Galaxy A06 instead. However, it can understand articles written in Bahasa Malaysia and provide more detailed information from elsewhere.
That said, to use Gemini Live, you will need a Gemini Advanced subscription. But Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 series users can use it free for a few months as the devices come with a free subscription.
