If you want to build an app with generative AI features, here's news that may interest you. Recently, Google announced that Gemini Nano is now open to all Android developers. This means we could see more Android apps with generative AI features soon.

Specifically, Android app developers can now experiment with Gemini Nano using AICore's AI Edge software development kit (SDK). This SDK offers text-related features like paraphrasing, smart reply, proofreading, and summarisation. For your info, Gemini Nano is an on-device platform. It processes your prompts on the device without the need to access a server. This means faster responses due to low latency. Also, you won't have to pay any extra fee for using the platform.

Besides that, developers are also getting access to the newer Nano 2 model. It's nearly twice the size of Nano 1 and promises better performance in "academic benchmarks and real-world applications". For those unaware, Gemini Nano is already being used in certain Google apps like Talkback, Pixel Screenshots, Pixel Recorder, and Messages. Currently, developers can experiment with Gemini Nano only on Pixel devices. But support for more devices will be added in the future.

To make a long story short, this announcement means we may see more Gemini Nano-powered Android apps in the coming months. So, it would be interesting to see how it changes the user experience of existing apps. What do you think? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
