The global chip shortage could last well into 2022, but that's not stopping companies from selling more phone. In fact, analysts have found that smartphone brands sold more devices in the last quarter, compared to Q1 2020.

According to Canalys, the global smartphone market saw smartphone shipments increase by 27% year-over-year in Q1 2021. A total of 347 million smartphones were shipped in the first quarter alone. Samsung took the top spot at 76.5 million units, followed by Apple and Xiaomi at 52.4 and 49 million units, respectively.

Of the bunch, Xiaomi is the company that saw the most growth. The company saw a 62% year-over-year, owing to the strong performance of its new models. But analysts believe that OPPO, vivo, and Honor will also do well thanks to the mid-range segment. On that topic, the analysts also discuss LG's exit from the smartphone market, claiming that aggressive pricing and channel strategy are superior to hardware innovation these days.

Personally, I don't quite agree with that. But some people prefer affordable smartphones over expensive ones with fancy gimmicks. Having said that, what are your thoughts on the topic? Let us know in the comments below! And for more news like this, stay tuned to TechNave.com.
