At the Google I/O event, Google introduced several new updates to its Gemini AI. There is a new Gemini 1.5 Flash version, Gemma 2, Project Astra and many more. Read on below to find out more about it.
Without beating around the bush too much, the new Gemini 1.5 Flash is a new addition to the Gemini family as a lightweight model than the 1.5 Pro. Even though it's a lightweight model, it's still capable of multimodel reasoning. Google designed 1.5 Flash to be optimised for high-volume, high-frequency tasks at scale and more cost-efficient to serve.

In other news, Gemini 1.5 Pro has been significantly improved and it's coming to Google Workspace. Gemma 2 was announced as the next-gen of open models for AI functions and Google also shared its progress of Project Astra as an advanced seeing and talking responsive AI assistant (watch the video above). All in all, Google is investing a lot in AI this year and below are some more fun stuff that we learn from Google I/O:
- Google Lens can now search while you record a video
- Circle to Search can be used to solve math problems
- Google Search can now create summarized answers
- Project Astra as your personal AI assistant
- Veo can generate 1080p video with text prompts, will have a SynthID watermark
- Android phones can detect scams, using AI
- Smarter AI function for Android phones
- Google Chrome will receive an AI assistant
- Gemini can answer questions about your photo library
- Gemini can be used in Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Gmail)
- Gemini Gems can create a custom chatbot
- Gemini Live can talk like a real person
