Previously, we reported that Google Maps on Wear OS 3 smartwatches now support turn-by-turn navigation without the need to link to a smartphone. Now, the Wear OS app has gotten another significant upgrade whereby users can let the display be continuously on while using Google Maps.

As reported by 9to5Google, this is part of a new update to the app that brings always on display (AOD) support as well as a few tweaks to the main UI. AOD is especially useful when using your Wear OS 3 smartwatches for navigation with the Google Maps app as you don’t need to constantly wake up the display to see where to go.

With the update, users now see a dedicated full-screen list view for navigation instead of the overall map. Previously, in order to see the turn-by-turn navigation, users have to swipe up from the map.

The change is part of version 11.65 of Google Maps for Wear OS 3 that’s currently rolling out to smartwatches running on the operating system. Of course, the most prominent devices with Wear OS 3 currently are the Google Pixel Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series.
