Other than the Pixel 4, Google's Pixel smartphones have been depending on a physical fingerprint scanner for security. This time, it looks like the company is finally trying to hop on the trend by using an in-display finger scanner. It is said that the technology could be seen on the upcoming Pixel 6.

Thanks to the recent release of Android 12 Developer Preview 2, developer kdrag0n has spotted that the code is changed with several new classes added in the SystemUIGoogle app. One of those classes is “UdfpsControllerGoogle” and the “Udfps” refers to “under-display fingerprint scanner”.

The source mentions that this would be a good time for Google to introduce the technology on its smartphone as the optical in-display fingerprint scanner has been around for years. Therefore, there is hardly any trouble if Google chose to replace the rear fingerprint scanner with something that the other smartphone manufacturers have been using.
