Google has been steadily adding new features to its apps lately and even Google Maps isn't being left out. Recently, the company has announced that the app will be getting a new COVID-19 layer so you can check out where the hot zones are. Now, another feature is coming to the Android app first.

According to 9to5Google, the option for a dark mode has been spotted on the Android version of Google Maps recently. Once you get the update, you will be able to see the new "Appearance" options in the settings menu. You will be able to choose between the light, dark, or system default theme.

It should be noted that the settings for Navigation mode will be separate and that dark mode has always been available on it. To set that, go to settings in Google Maps, tap on "Navigation settings" and switch the colour scheme under "Map display". Overall, the new dark mode was implemented well and nothing seems to hard to read in the dark.

The update isn't available for most yet, so we're not sure when it'll be officially available for Malaysians. Do let us know if you have managed to get the feature the comments below! You can also stay tuned to TechNave.com for when we get more news on the update.
